Toronto Neighbourhoods

There’s no doubt that Toronto is a great place to enjoy with your kids. But what happens when you manage to get a sitter? Luckily, our fair city is just as much fun once the sun goes down as it is when the little ones are still awake. One of the best ways for moms and dads to reconnect is over an incredible meal. Here in the west end, you’ll find an almost endless number of buzzworthy restaurants where you and your spouse can relax with a drink, sample amazing cuisine, and enjoy a bit of one-on-one time.

If you’re looking for the perfect place for your next date night, try one of these hotspots in five of West Toronto’s most exciting neighbourhoods…

1) Junction Triangle – Mattachioni

In recent years, the Museum of Contemporary Art and a host of hip local businesses have helped turn Junction Triangle into one of the city’s most interesting “it” neighbourhoods. What better time to check out the area than on a date? If you decide to try out a local restaurant, I recommend Mattachioni. The Italian fare here is simple and authentic, making it the ultimate place to step up your next pizza night. Grab a beer or cocktail, order a Margherita pie, and settle into this casual Dupont Street eatery for a relaxed meal with your significant other.

2) Bloorcourt – Paradise Grapevine

If you don’t live in Bloorcourt (and you haven’t spent much time in the area), believe me when I say this diverse neighbourhood is worth exploring. You might want to start with Paradise Grapevine—especially if you’re seeking a romantic night out. This charming hotspot is brought to you by the same people who created Bar Volo, one of the city’s most unique watering holes. At their newest endeavour, you’ll find a fantastic wine list, delicious light fare, and an atmospheric bar and patio. This is the ideal place to catch up with your partner while savouring some riesling and charcuterie.

3) Little Italy – Bar Isabel

Ambiance, check. Impressive drink selection, check. Some of the best tapas you’ll find anywhere? Bar Isabel offers it all. In the heart of quaint-yet-vibrant Little Italy, you’ll find this absolute gem of a Spanish restaurant. It’s got one of the best reputations in Toronto, and for good reason. If you visit on a date, I suggest starting with a cocktail at the romantically-lit bar. Once your table is ready, you and your significant other will love sharing perfectly-grilled octopus, savoury patatas bravas, or traditional peppers and chorizo.

4) Trinity Bellwoods

Trinity Bellwoods is more than just an ultra-hip neighbourhood that contains one of the city’s biggest (and most beautiful) parks. It’s also home to some of Toronto’s coolest bars and eateries—including Cote De Bouef. If you and your date are carnivores or fans of French cuisine, you’ll love this Parisian-inspired bar a vin. From its locally-sourced meats to its oysters and selection of cheeses (to say nothing of the wine), this cozy spot is a great go-to if you want to indulge while enjoying some intimate conversation.

5) The Annex

Between its gorgeous old architecture, its lush greenery, and its youthful energy, the Annex is a great place to take a romantic evening stroll. But if it’s a unique dining experience you’re after, check out Fet Zun. This eatery, created by industry veteran Anthony Rose, offers a wide array of dishes with strong Moroccan and Turkish influences. Grab a table for two in this colourful space, then start off with some freshly-baked pita bread and a variety of shareable spreads. When it’s time for something more substantial, the hearty vegetable, meat, and fish dishes here don’t disappoint.
