Few Torontonians would have guessed that Bloorcourt would become one of the hippest little up-and-coming enclaves in the west end. The growing list of vibrant local businesses is a big part of that (though home buyers are big fans of the green space, access to transit, and fantastic mix of homes, too).
Thinking of moving to the Bloorcourt? If so, here are five things to know about the neighbourhood…
1) The food scene is alive and well
Perhaps Julia Child said it best: people who love to eat are always the best people. If you’re looking to share an inspired meal with someone special, you’ll find some great options in Bloorcourt Village.
COO Cafe Bread or Rice is one of my favourites. This surprisingly affordable eatery serves up creative Japanese and French fare. From the yakitori don to the Hamburg steak, the food here is hearty, flavourful, and guaranteed to satisfy!
If Italian is more your thing, put Osteria Rialto at the top of your list. Located inside The Paradise, this charming restaurant serves up perfectly-prepared pasta dishes and tender cuts of meat. You can even get your meal to go (along with a wonderfully-paired bottle of wine).
2) You’ll find some truly unique menswear
Looking for some ultra-stylish duds? If it’s menswear that you’re seeking, Muddy George has you covered. This retail hotspot features an abundance of cutting-edge designer brands from across Canada, Europe, Asia, and beyond.
Honestly, I can’t recommend this buzz-worthy boutique enough. From its curated sneaker collection to its colourful basics, there’s something at Muddy George for every style-conscious guy. Don’t forget to pick up a couple of items to make your home—and yourself—smell good (think bergamot soap and jasmine & musk candles).
3) Decadent baked goods abound
Who doesn’t love dessert—or something straight from the oven to go with their morning coffee? That’s where Bloorcourt’s bakeries come in. Specifically, Bakerbots is a quaint little business on Delaware Avenue. But don’t let its size fool you. At any given time, there’s a wide variety of tempting treats on offer. Pitch-perfect croissants and gourmet ice cream sandwiches? Yes please!
If you’re vegan and looking to indulge, check out Bloomers Bakery. You can’t look at its display case—filled with macarons, tarts, cupcakes, and other goodies—without wanting to try a little of everything. Oh, and the donuts are legendary.
4) You’re not far from two beloved community parks
No community is complete without at least one lively park. Fortunately, there are two in close proximity to Bloorcourt. First, there’s Dovercourt Park—a green space with a true neighbourhood feel. Situated at Dufferin and Dupont, this 2.4-hectare area is both serene and perfect for families. Here you’ll find a baseball diamond, outdoor tennis courts, playground, and more.
Dufferin Grove Park is also easily accessible for Bloorcourt Village residents. At 5.3 hectares, this well-known—and much loved—space features sports fields, a basketball court, picnic areas (including firepits and bake ovens), and many other amenities. If walking is your thing, this is the perfect place to take a stroll (and enjoy the mature trees, while you’re at it).
5) It’s a great place for a tipple
For many of us, there’s no better way to cap off the work week than with a nice glass of wine. If you’re a vino lover, check out Paradise Grapevine. This relaxed Bloorcourt bar is known for its collection of white, red, sparkling, orange, and rosé wines. They’re available for pick up, and fall into helpful categories like “Fun & Funky,” Big & Bold,” and “Elegant” in their online shop. You’ll also find an extensive list of beers and ciders.
Speaking of beer, nearby Blood Brothers is one of the best places in the city to buy some. From IPAs and ales to sours and stouts, there’s no shortage of flavourful options. The brewery also offers Ontario-wide delivery (in case you want to send a little gift to a beer-loving buddy who’s outside the city).
